Gone to the Birds

What do David Chang, Andrew Carmellini, and Robert De Niro all have in common?

The Answer: Fried Chicken!

Apparently there's a new "it" item gracing NYC menus these days. Bye-bye burgers! You may have been all the rage last fall, but this year marks the triumph of the chicken!

So, move over KFC, hold the hot sauce Popeyes, and return to the pew Churches, because these rockstar restaurateurs offer the real mother clucker!

See below for each chef's incantations of the fried bird:

Chang -
Where: Momofuku Noodle Bar (east village)
What: Fried chicken dinners that feed up to 8 featuring two types of fried chicken -- Korean-style and good ole' Southern-style with Old Bay seasonings.

Carmellini (chef) & De Niro (owner)
Where: Locanda Verde (west village)
De Niro's latest -- and greatest -- NYC restaurant
What: Fried Chicken Live dinner series which features, house-smoked bacon to accompany your buttermilk fried chicken. Oh, and let's not forget the live band that promises to add a little twang to your step.

And, why not enjoy a little taste of the South? After all, it's something that all us hard, pretentious New Yorkers need -- good ole' comfort food.
