Obsessions: Rita's Italian Ice

My new obsession this summer: Rita's Italian Ice

My favorite combination: green pear and black cherry Italian ice with chocolate and vanilla swirled custard.

The only Manhattan location is on Broadway between 92nd and 93rd Street.
But, it's worth the trek.

Try the Gelati -- a mixture of Italian Ice and creamy frozen custard. It's been my favorite frozen treat while battling the NYC heat this summer. (On Saturday morning, before the city went on lock-down for hurricane Irene, Daniel ran out and grabbed a Gelati. "Well, we won't be able to get another one until Monday," he reasoned. Said like a true addict...)

Each Italian ice flavor (definitely try the black cherry!) features fruit chunks engulfed in a frozen, juicy slushy. The custard tastes richer than ice cream. (The secret is more egg yolks!*) But, it's so silky smooth and delicious. The combination of the two is purely addicting. Mixing the sweet and sour flavors of the Italian ice with the milky custard is an addicting combination. Yum!
